Main purpose of the role:

The University Advisor works within the team responsible for the daily operations of the University Advising department. The University Advisor raises awareness of the diversity of post-CDL options available to students, advises students individually and assists students and parents with the university application process, submitting school documents in support of university applications and developing relationships with universities.

Key responsibilities:

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Creates educational programs and materials for students, parents and colleagues (including advisors, teachers and boarding parents) to assist them in the university application process.
  • Accompanies students in completing the application process by finalising lists of universities and submitting applications.
  • Completes and submits required elements for students’ university applications for allocated students.
  • Promotes and shares information regarding summer programs, universities visits, open days and other available opportunities linked to enhancing student profiles for their university applications.
  • Organises and participates in university visits and fairs at CDL, visits universities on tours and fly-ins and participate in conferences, for example CIS, IACAC on a regular basis.
  • Organises and participates in parent presentations and sessions regarding the university advising process and options choices in collaboration with colleagues and the high school office.
  • Contributes to the career and university discovery opportunities in Grade 8 to 10 in collaboration with the pastoral team.
  • Advises students on options choices relating to university aspirations.
  • Assists students and staff in monitoring graduation credits and evaluating transfer credits.
  • Organises PSAT testing in collaboration with colleagues, informing and assisting students with testing requirements linked to university applications.
  • Maintains data and shares with all relevant departments within the school and Nord Anglia as well as with prospective or current parents as appropriate.

 

 

Skills and Competencies:

 

  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of the university admissions arena and of school leaving qualifications.
  • English mother tongue with excellent written and verbal skills, additional fluency in both spoken and written French will be a distinct advantage.
  • Sufficient IT skills to support the role.
  • A good team player with excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
  • Ready adaptation to new environments and situations, organized, enthusiastic and energetic in the development and implementation of programmes, responding well to directives from superiors, taking initiative and responsibility and relating well to students and parents in all aspects of the job function, while being conscientious and exhibiting the highest standards of professionalism at all times.

Prior Knowledge

School leaving qualifications, university admissions procedures.

Understanding of IBDP, IBCP, High School Diploma and AP, French Baccalaureat and Swiss Maturité
