Expedition Assistants work as members of the outdoor education team at College Beau Soleil who provides a quality modular course compulsory to all our students.

Responsibilities will include helping plan, prepare and deliver all aspects of the programme that include teamwork and leadership challenges, camping, mountaineering expeditions, skiing or snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, canoeing and involvement in other activities as required.

Expedition Assistants will also be responsible for maintaining and managing the equipment store and equipment.

During the first and third term the focus is on expeditions and outdoor challenges. The winter term involves an extensive programme with the focus on skiing and snowboarding. During this term Expedition Assistants will assist in the delivery of our ski programme and help with the management of La Sionairre, our mountain chalet and ski base.

Expedition Assistants will be employed for a period of 1 academic year from September for a period of 10 months per year. (September – June) with the possibility to extend for a further academic year for exceptional candidates by mutual agreement.  The possibility of working during the summer for additional pay at our summer camp also exits.


Candidates applying for this post are required to hold a spread of qualifications or experience in a range of outdoor activities. These should include International Mountain Leader, Single Pitch Supervisor, combined with qualifications or personal experience in skiing and mountain biking and canoeing.  The ability to communicate in French is also desirable. Applicants are also expected to hold a full clean driving license.

 Terms and conditions:

Working a flexible 5 days per week. Accommodation and board provided over the 10-month period during term time. One set of expedition department clothing issued.  A season pass is available for the winter season. The remuneration for this post is 2000(CHF) per month.
