British International School Hanoi is looking to appoint a Head of Mathematics, to join our talented and dedicated team of educators from August 2022.

The Mathematics Department at BIS Hanoi is a collaborative, supportive, forward-thinking team consisting of highly motivated teachers who deliver the highest quality teaching and learning to our students. We deliver learning inspired by the English National Curriculum in Years 7-9, Cambridge IGCSE in Years 10-11 (with our top students also embarking on CIE IGCSE Additional Mathematics), leading ultimately to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Years 12-13. The Mathematics Department includes 7 teaching staff and 1 teaching assistant. The Head of Mathematics is supported by an Assistant Head of Department.

Along with a track record and successful leadership, the ideal candidate will have the ability to plan and deliver high quality lessons that engage, motivate, and challenge students of all abilities, and come with innovative, enriching ideas, as well as being a strong team-player. A desire and willingness to teach through Years 7 to 13 is essential.  Experience of (I)GCSE and IBDP preferable.

Purpose of the role

  • To lead and provide day-to-day management and organisation of the highly successful Secondary School Mathematics Department.
  • As a key middle leader, assist in developing long-term strategies to raise standards in the subject and the school generally.
  • Foster a culture of high performance within the Mathematics team, with learning and student well-being as central foci.
  • Encourage a culture of collaboration, risk-taking, and support within the team, and promote a shared vision.
  • Lead the ongoing development of the curriculum, teaching and learning standards, and departmental resources.
