Assistant Head of Secondary (with responsibility for IBDP)

British International School Hanoi is looking for a highly qualified Assistant Head of Secondary (Academic) from August 2021.

BIS is an all through school in excess of 1,000 students, from 2 to 18 years. Primary and Secondary teachers work together closely to deliver a stimulating curriculum leading into the IGCSE and the IB Diploma programmes. At BIS, students achieve outstanding results: The IB average score in the school’s first year of completing the International Baccalaureate was higher than the IB global average and for the 4th year running, BIS Hanoi students' results have exceeded the UK average for GCSEs.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be someone who is highly motivated and continually seeking to improve, aligning with our vision of ‘being ambitious’. They will have an aptitude for operating systems but will be equally comfortable developing teams of staff in a face-to-face context.  Our ideal candidate will have experience in leading with the IBDP as one of the responsibilities of the role is likely to involved co-ordination of the programme.

We’ll look to you to promote high expectations for our students, organise our academic teams and work closely with the Secondary Leadership Team in creating a learning culture where there are no limits to what can be achieved. The successful candidate, along with the Head of Secondary, Deputy Head of Secondary and Assistant Head of Pastoral Care form the Secondary School Leadership Team (SSLT). This team leads the strategic and operational workings of the school.

There is a teaching commitment, which will include the delivery of an adapted UK National Curriculum, IGCSE and IB Diploma Programme. Please clearly state which subject(s) you are able to teach, and to what level.

  • A degree and Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent
  • At least 5 years’ experience of teaching
  • Leadership experience at middle or senior level
  • Experience with IBDP
  • Teachers who have high expectations for pupils’ behaviour, establishing and maintaining a good standard of behaviour management through well focused teaching and through positive and productive relationships
  • Teachers who identify clear learning objectives, content, structures and sequences of lessons appropriate to the educational needs of the students
  • Reflective practitioners who set appropriate, realistic yet demanding expectations for student learning, building on prior attainment/knowledge
  • Passionate and ambitious teachers who can motivate students, based on high expectations.
  • Promotion of the wider aspirations and values of the school
  • Teachers who have experience of adapting lessons for EAL learners
